Construction on Harkness Memorial Park to begin mid-2025

A bull-oak: a species of flowering plant native to south-eastern Australia.

We're excited to announce that construction of the new Harkness Memorial Park will commence in mid-2025, following significant progress on our Stage 1A development plans.

GMCT CEO, Andrew Eriksen, expressed his enthusiasm about reaching this important milestone: “We're incredibly excited to be breaking ground on our new memorial park in Harkness – it marks a new chapter for Melbourne's rapidly growing western region. Over time, the park will become vital community infrastructure, serving not only as a final resting place and sanctuary for reflection, but also as a versatile open space for the community.”

What to expect in Stage 1A

The initial construction phase will focus on establishing essential services and infrastructure, including:

  • Burial and memorial areas

  • A multi-use space administration and events building

  • Open parkland for passive recreation

This staged approach will allow the memorial park to begin serving the community in Melbourne’s west while additional features continue to be developed in future stages.

A responsive, community focused development

The Harkness Memorial Park design will evolve through multiple stages, adapting to changing community needs and preferences in Melbourne’s western suburbs.
